Health insurance for Palm Bay and the Space Coast

Brevard County is full of engineers, technicians, and tradespeople who work on contract or run their own shops. I help them find solid coverage when there's no group plan to lean on.

Between jobs on the Space Coast?

Aerospace and defense drive a big share of the work here. L3Harris is headquartered in Melbourne and runs a large engineering campus in Palm Bay, and other defense and space companies employ thousands more across the county. This year, layoffs hit 3 of Brevard's largest employers.

If you've been laid off, your coverage clock starts ticking. Here's what I want you to know:

  • COBRA lets you stay on your employer's plan, though you'll typically cover the entire premium yourself, plus up to a 2% fee. The window to sign up is generally at least 60 days.
  • Losing your work coverage usually gives you 60 days to sign up for a Marketplace plan outside open enrollment.
  • A private plan can be worth comparing if you're healthy, especially if your household income is above the subsidy limit.

Don't let those deadlines pass while you're job hunting. One 30-minute call can lay out all 3 side by side.

Going from W-2 to 1099

Plenty of Space Coast engineers and technicians come back as contractors. The pay can be good, but the benefits disappear. If you're self-employed, you may be able to deduct what you pay for health insurance, so check with your tax pro. Then let's find a plan that covers what you actually use.

Two-income households often cross the subsidy limit sooner than they expect. For 2027 coverage, Marketplace tax credits stop at $86,560 for a couple. If you're over that and in good health, a private plan deserves a look.

Your local hospitals

Health First is Brevard's largest employer, and it runs several of the county's hospitals. They include Palm Bay Hospital, which is adding a new patient tower expected in 2028, Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, and Viera Hospital. Each insurance company decides which hospitals are in its network, so I look up yours before you pick anything.

What working with me looks like

I'm a licensed health insurance agent based in Tampa, and I help Brevard County clients by phone and screen share.

  1. Get an estimate

Run the 4-question estimate. You won't be asked for an email.

  2. Book a call

Grab a 30-minute call. Bring your doctor list, prescriptions, and any COBRA paperwork.

  3. Compare your options

I narrow your options and explain each one on screen.

  4. Apply together

When a private plan is the right fit, we handle the application together.

  5. Keep my number

After you enroll, I'm the one you call with questions, so you skip the insurance company's hold music.

Good to know

Approval depends on your health answers, so it isn't guaranteed.

Space Coast FAQs

  • I took a contract role with no benefits. What should I do first?

Get an estimate, then book a call. I'll compare private and Marketplace plans for your situation and total up what each would cost over a year, not just per month.

  • Should I just take COBRA to be safe?

Sometimes it's the right call, especially if you're in the middle of treatment or have met your deductible. It can also be one of the pricier options. Let's compare before your election window closes.

  • Do you also help people in Melbourne and Viera?

Yes. I help people across Brevard County, including Palm Bay, Melbourne, West Melbourne, Viera, Rockledge, Cocoa, Merritt Island, and Titusville.

Four questions get you 2 estimates, one private and one Marketplace, and you don't need to share an email.
